Oh boy, 2019 is here and I have some amazing travel plans! I’ve got 4 months off from work, so there’s much I plan to do and see. You’ll read all about it in this article.

Why did I take four months off from work?
I have a healthy travel addiction. Every year I try to do one or two big trips and I also visit multiple cities. With my job, I’m very lucky to get a full month off in July, but that’s also the most expensive month for a long vacation. I would love to travel for a longer time during the low season, but I didn’t want to give up my job. Luckily my boss gave me 4 months off (unpaid leave) and here’s my chance!
I’ve known this for quite some time now, and have made a lot of different itineraries. There’s so much of the world I still want to see! I thought about traveling to Asia, New Zealand, South America, and North America. In the end, I’ve decided to go to the place that really makes me happy and where I still have lots of places to discover: the United States.
The Pacific Crest Trail
My original plan was to do a big road trip and go camping in several national parks in the United States. But last summer I hiked the Inca Trail in Peru and I loved it so much, that I want to go for another long distance hike. I watched a lot of clips about long distance hikes on Dixie’s YouTube channel Homemade Wanderlust and I was sold: I want to hike a section of the famous Pacific Crest Trail!
The Pacific Crest Trail is over 2600 miles (4000 kilometers) long and takes you from Mexico to Canada. 2600 miles is a little too much for me (and it takes about five months), so I decided to go for a section. My plan is to hike from Campo (and the Mexican border) and see how far I can get in five weeks. I think it will be amazing to get to know the trail this way and discover if I’d like to walk all of it in the future or not. Right now I’m preparing for the trail by trying out my gear and hiking a lot.

Hawaii has been on my bucket list forever, but I’ve never been there because it’s so expensive and far away. But after hiking for five weeks, I wanted a luxury break, so Hawaii it is! I’ll start in Waikiki (Oahu), and will also visit Maui and Big Island. I hope to do lots of hiking (if I still like it by then) and also want to relax on the many beautiful beaches.
What happens next?
After two weeks in Hawaii, I’ll fly back to mainland USA, to Portland (Oregon). I’ll still have a couple of weeks before my 90-day ESTA runs out. I’ll probably do some road tripping and camping. There are many places I’d love to visit, like Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, and the Oregon Coast. I haven’t decided yet.
After 90 days in the United States, I still have about a month of vacation left and I’ll spend this month in Mexico! In Mexico, I want to see a couple of Maya ruins, but also enjoy the delicious food and relax a lot. If I feel like it, I might visit Belize and Guatemala as well. I will figure it out once I’m there.
These are my awesome travel plans for 2019! If you’ve got any tips for me for the areas I’d like to visit, please let me know! Happy travels!
